While the game is relatively new to New York the USA has an interesting history in Rugby League.
In 1953 a group of American football players led by Mike Dimitro left the USA to tour Australia to play Rugby League. None of the athletes had ever previously played the game. Yet, they were not only able to compete against some of the best players in the world, but also shocked the local teams with some stunning victories.
